Shiva
The teachings of Supreme Meditation are primarily based on the ancient, time-honored principles and practices of Trika Shaivism, an established oral tradition having its roots in the relationship between Master and Student. This is the School of Spanda Yoga first established by Vasuguptacharya on the command of Lord Shiva, that flourished under the great sage Sri Abhinavaguptacharya (see our 1-Day Introduction to Trika Shaivism course). These teachings also spread to the south of India, into Tamil Nadu, where they came to be known as Shaiva Siddhanta.
Shiva is the name we give to the Absolute One formless being, or God-principle. Lord Shiva, this Absolute Formless Being also took a form on this Earth plane to spread the teachings now known as Trika Shaivism. He is also The Blue Being, so called after the appearances he has made to many enlightened sages in meditation.
Shaivism is a very practical science that combines yoga (the transformation of human consciousness into Divine Consciousness) with spiritual practices that allow you to have a direct experience of God in the heart of your own consciousness. Shaivism teaches you to realize that this whole objective world in which you perform all your mundane activities is not separate from God consciousness. You do not have to realize God by removing yourself from your worldly life circumstances or daily interactions. God and the individual are one. To realize this is the essence of Shaivism.
In this way, you can begin to understand and apply the principles of our Shaivism. Here, we understand everything to be a conjoining of energies. Energy is required for you to think. You need energy to get up and go to work, to eat, to play, to concentrate. You even need energy to sleep. All of your bodily functions also relay on energy.
In Shaivism, we understand and experience that there is one Supreme energy that is the foundation for all the other energues that you rely on to exist. We refer to this energy as Supreme Shiva Consciousness or the Shakti of the Supreme, or just Divine Conscious energy.
The distinction that we make is that this is a spiritual energy. It is actually the same energy you rely on to direct your senses outward. When the spiritual aspect of that energy is fully awakened and directed back inside to conjoin with this Supreme Shiva Consciousness, we then recognize this energy as spiritual energy.
In the science of Shaivism, contained in this spiritual energy are five powers. These five powers are expressed in our mundane world in five wys, both in mthe body of Divine Conscious energy, and in its contraction that takes the form of this world and all the activity in it.
Usng the principles and practices of Shaivism, you can learn to recognize and master your experience of these five expressions in order to master all the energies of your life.
All Must Retrace Their Path Back To God
The path to God-realization is a path that you are destined to tread at some point in this life or future lifetimes. At some point in the evolution of your karmas, you will have nowhere else to turn and nowhere else to look but to God. You can make the commitment to become a Yogi now or you can put it off for another lifetime. However, it is inevitable that you will reach a point in a particular life of yours when you will have to retrace your path back to God.
All beings eventually seek out a Teacher who can show them the way back. You can choose to do it now or you can do it later. If you choose to do it now, a true Paradise of ultimate Freedom, total Joy, complete Happiness, all- encompassing Peace and total insulation from the "rat race" of pleasure and pain will be your steady experience, through the Grace of the Master and your own Grace, which is your steady effort at spiritual practice. Why wait?
